Mateo Pellegrino continues to adapt in his first year at Fiorentina following a move from Parma, but his message is clear: he is ready to take responsibility in front of goal and fill the gap in attack left by Moise Kean. In the midst of rebuilding the Viola's attack, his statement served as an indication of confidence and determination to immediately contribute points and presence in the final third. The young forward did not deny that he still needs time to get used to the system, rhythm and expectations in Florence. It's common for players who change teams within Serie A to go through a short period of acclimatization—the new attacking tactics, midfield combinations, and flow of build-up play bring something different. In Pellegrino's case, his quick timing and communication with teammates is essential to show his natural instincts in front of goal and readiness for second balls and cut-backs inside the box. With the loss of Moise Kean, Fiorentina needed a new focal point and additional threat inside the penalty area. Pellegrino set the tone: he wants to be an option not only as the traditional no. 9 but as an active presser that helps the first line of defense and allows for faster transitions. In this framework, his movement behind the defense, correct positioning on near-post and far-post runs, and ability to open up space for oncoming midfielders have increased in importance.

Aside from the issue of his role, Pellegrino's praise for Mastantuono did not escape the followers. According to him, there is one aspect of the youth game that truly impressed and surprised him—a recognition that shows an eye for detail and respect for the skill of fellow professionals. Although he did not elaborate on the details, the message is enough: Pellegrino thinks highly of Mastantuono's quality and potential. In a wider context, building chemistry early on in the front line is critical for Fiorentina to accumulate points and ensure a competitive position in the Serie A table. The rise of a new leader in attack—this time, a determined Pellegrino—will help to ease Kean's departure and maintain the direction of the team's project. As the first weeks of the campaign progress, his contribution will measure the Viola's level of effectiveness in tight matches, especially against fellow contenders for a place above mid-table. For Pellegrino, the first step is confidence in the process: intensive work in training, adapting tactics, and translating confidence into the actual match. If he can accomplish this, he could prove that he can become a new pillar in Fiorentina's attack and serve as a symbol of a new phase for the Viola.

What's next

Pellegrino is expected to continue to adapt to Fiorentina's system while strengthening his connection with teammates. His performance in the next few matches could set the tone for his future in Serie A, as the team relies on his contribution to achieve success in the league.
