Hibernian's new performance manager Rogier Molhoek has described the reason he followed Marink Reedijk from Beveren — simple harmony and coaching compatibility. According to the 45-year-old former player, their relationship is rooted in the same mindset when it comes to football and the way they work as a coaching team. Molhoek said he couldn't imagine going if Reedijk wasn't coming, and described the decision as "a kind of loyalty." In an interview with Hibs TV, he said it wasn't a difficult choice when Reedijk called him: for him, their connection as coaches was clear. Before he got into coaching, Molhoek played and started and ended his playing career at Dordrecht. Between the start and end of his career, he played for Waalwijk, AZ Alkmaar, Breda, Vitesse and Venlo. After playing, he began coaching and was also an assistant coach at Dordrecht and Breda — and later teamed up with Reedijk at Beveren which culminated in promotion with an unbeaten league campaign.

Molhoek also discussed how their relationship works within the coaching staff. According to him, Reedijk gives him the freedom to be himself and be creative: Molhoek says that Reedijk sometimes tells him "no, it's too much" when he needs to tighten the controls. He added that it was important to him to be able to work with someone who allowed him to be true to himself — "you can be yourself" — and that they were compatible in thinking about football. Describing their philosophy in the game, Molhoek said they both want to play with control of the ball: "We like to have the ball and, if we lose the ball, we want to have it right away back." This shows their clear focus on possession and immediate recovery, which will likely shape the style of the team under their leadership. Molhoek's move with Reedijk highlights the value of chemistry in the coaching staff and how a strong partnership can bring unity and a clear idea of the game. For Molhoek, the foundation of their relationship — compatibility, freedom of style, and trust — is what made him follow Reedijk into a new phase of their coaching careers.

What's next

Molhoek is expected to continue in his new role at Hibernian, working alongside Reedijk to optimize the team's performance.
