Context

Mehdi Abdi, known for his important goals for Persepolis, brought high expectations to his new team, Kheybar Khorramabad. His absence from the match against his former team is causing sadness among the fans, who hope to see him play again in the next matches in Iran's Liga Pro.

Why it matters

The match between Kheybar Khorramabad and Persepolis is important not only because of their history but because of the expected results. Kheybar, who secured two wins against Persepolis last season, will be hoping to achieve another victory in front of their supporters. However, the loss of Mehdi Abdi, a former Persepolis star, is having a major impact on their attack.

Key Points

• Mehdi Abdi, former derby hero, not included.
• Mehdi Abdi was removed from Kheybar's list for the match against Persepolis.
• گلزن دربی از لیست بازی پرسپولیس خت خورد | سرة سه.

Mehdi Abdi was not included in Kheybar Khorramabad's official list for their match against Persepolis at the Takhti Stadium in Khorramabad, according to the announcement of Kheybar's coaching staff. The decision took away from the expected emotional subplot of the match, as the 27-year-old striker previously wore the red kit of Persepolis and was part of some of its supporters' fondest memories. In recent years, Abdi's name has risen among Persepolis followers thanks to goals on the biggest stages: including a brace in the Tehran derby and a crucial score in the final of the Asian Champions League. This season, he was at Kheybar Khorramabad, but despite the chance to test himself again against his former team, he was not included in the list for this match. No official reason was given for his removal from the roster, and he is expected to watch from the stadium seats. The battle mix is important for both camps. Kheybar are the hosts and are expected to rely on the enthusiasm of their supporters in Khorramabad. The track record will also draw attention: Kheybar managed two wins against Persepolis last season, giving the home side confidence that they can repeat the good result. However, Abdi's loss changes the dynamic up front for Kheybar, especially as he is known as a finisher who can finish off half-chances in tight matches.

For Persepolis, the task remains to show why they are one of the biggest institutions in Iranian football. Facing Kheybar with the momentum they have on home ground will not be easy, but the visitors already know the pressure of big occasions. On the other hand, Kheybar will have to fill the hole that Abdi will leave in attack with collective movement, quick transitions, and intelligent attacks in space—aspects of the game that can dictate the rhythm for 90 minutes. On a personal level, it's a waste of time for Abdi to test himself again against the club he once shone at. A match against the former team is often special, not only because of the emotion but also because of the natural desire to show one's own progress. But this time, he'll remain part of the story on the sidelines—an important name who won't pull on the jersey amid the din of the home crowd. As the first whistle approaches, attention is focused on two questions: how will Kheybar balance their attack without Abdi, and how will Persepolis handle the challenge of a host with fond memories of their last encounters. Regardless of the outcome, expect the battle to be tight in Iran's Liga Pro, where every point is critical and every line-up decision—like Abdi's absence—could be key to the overall story of the season.

What's next

Due to the absence of Mehdi Abdi in the lineup, Kheybar had to adjust their attack strategy. Kheybar can rely on other players to fill the gap left by Abdi, while the supporters hope to see their team succeed again against a strong opponent. This match will be a test for Kheybar if they can continue their good run in Iran's Liga Pro.
