Context

Sergiño Dest, a prominent player in the Eredivisie, has made important contributions to his team in recent matches. His presence on the right side of defense is expected to stabilize PSV's defensive line, especially in high-stakes matches. His experience from international duty could be a benefit to his performance in the Eredivisie.

Why it matters

PSV's match against SC Heerenveen is crucial to their goal of climbing to the top of the Eredivisie. Having Sergiño Dest in the starting eleven shows coach Peter Bosz's confidence in his ability, even though he is coming off international duty. A victory in this match could give PSV momentum as critical league matches approach.

Key Points

• PSV starting eleven: Dest included; Perisic sa.
• Dest starts for PSV even from the match between the United States and Canada; Perisic reserved.
• Opstelling PSV: Bosz start 'gewoon' met Dest, geen Perisic.

Coach Peter Bosz has revealed PSV Eindhoven's starting eleven for their return to Eredivisie action tonight against SC Heerenveen, at 8pm (Netherlands time). He reaffirmed his confidence in Sergiño Dest who will start on the right side of defense even though he just came off duty with the United States on Wednesday night against Canada. Esmir Bajraktarevic also starts on the wing, while Ivan Perisic will sit on the bench first. Tonight is important for the Eindhoven side: if three points are obtained, Bosz's team will climb to the top of the Eredivisie. This becomes even more critical because the current leader and second place—AZ and Feyenoord—will meet tomorrow, so PSV has a chance to take the initiative in the title race. In defense, Dest is on the right and Mauro Júnior is on the left. Matej Kovar mans the under post, with Ryan Flamingo and Armando Obispo at center back. In the middle, Kodai Sano, Guus Til, and Noah Fernandez will form a trident to control the rhythm and connect the defense and attack. Up front, Sven Mijnans is pushed by Bosz as the central player, due to the injuries of Ricardo Pepi and Alassane Pléa. On both wings, Bajraktarevic and Oranje international Ruben van Bommel will start. PSV's official starting eleven: Kovar; Dest, Flamingo, Bishop, Mauro Júnior; Sano, Til, Fernandez; Bajraktarevic, Mijnans, Van Bommel.

On the other hand, SC Heerenveen coach Robin Veldman chose not to change the winning formula. He will field the exact same eleven—the group that lost 0-4 against Sparta before the international break. That means, the Frisians are confident that they can continue their momentum against one of the biggest clubs in the country. Official starting eleven of Heerenveen: Klaverboer; Braude, Kersten, Willemsen, Zagaritis; Linday, Smans, Courtens; Trenskow, Vente, Rivera. Aside from the spotlight on Dest—who has a quick turnaround from duty in the United States—the focus is also on the impact of Bosz's pacing and pressing, especially in the first 20 minutes where PSV is known for its aggressive attack. For Heerenveen, early organization at the back and disciplined midfield were key to stopping the speed on the wings of the Eindhoven club. All in all, PSV's stakes are high tonight: a win will put them in the best possible position before AZ and Feyenoord meet. For Heerenveen, this is a chance to prove that their big win was no fluke before the break in the international futbol calendar.

What's next

If PSV win, they will climb to the top of the Eredivisie, giving them the initiative in the title race. The next match between the top teams, AZ and Feyenoord, will provide a further opportunity for PSV to secure their position. Dest's performance in defense will be key to their victory against Heerenveen.
