Union Brescia's successful start to Serie C is important not only for their morale but also for their aim to bounce back from previous playoff disappointment. The win against Carpi gave a positive start to their campaign in the 2026/2027 season, which could push them higher in the league.

• Serie C, results of the 1st day: Union Brescia and Bari al top, parte male l'Atalanta U23.

After the fatigue of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa and preparations in the national category, Serie C is back with applause for the new season 2026/2027. The tournament officially opened tonight with six matches and the first day will continue until Monday. In Girone A, Union Brescia showed strong character — not letting go of the disappointment from last June's playoff — and secured an opening victory over Carpi. At the same time, Alcione also celebrated their first match in the group after defeating Renate. These two wins give them the first spot on their record and will give the coaches and players confidence going into the long and competitive Serie C schedule. Attention then shifted to Girone B where the newly promoted Vado made a big surprise. In their debut, they overcame Atalanta U23 — the latter also in their first appearance in the series in the middle group of the tournament. Atalanta U23's defeat was painful especially as expectations were high on their profile, but it was part of a tough Serie C challenge filled with teams looking to move up to Serie B.

In Girone C, the focus is on two powerful teams: Bari and Potenza. Bari started with a win despite the laughter and protests from their fans, which showed the sporting tension but did not discourage the team in getting a positive result against Cavese. Similarly, Potenza also won against Casarano, proving that they are ready to keep pace at the top of the group. It wasn't a peaceful night either for Giugliano and Scafatese who delivered a pyrotechnic finish: their clash ended in a fiery draw full of emotion and goals. This type of match shows the unpredictability of Serie C, where points are made important and every exit has the potential to change the momentum of the entire campaign. The opening of Serie C is the first step towards a long and complicated battle for promotion and avoiding relegation. In the coming weeks, each team will try to solidify their record, adjust tactics and gather momentum as they prepare for a series of encounters in three groups all fighting for the limited ticket to Serie B. All in all, the first day gave a clear signal: there were teams that immediately showed ambition, while others still had to rise and adjust their direction. The next Serie C matches and schedule will continue to be monitored as the 2026/2027 season gets underway.

What's next

In the upcoming matches, Union Brescia is expected to continue to show their strength as they face the other teams in Girone A. Their win gives confidence not only to the players but also to the coaching staff, which is essential in building momentum in the long and rigorous schedule of Serie C football.
