Key Points

• Tactical Analysis: How Gjivai Zechiël Helped.
• Netherlands won against Serbia, 2-1, despite some potential defensive problems due to player position changes.
• Tactische analyze Nederland - Servië: Gjivai Zechiël helpt Xavi aan vrije man.

Netherlands coach Xavi conducted an experiment in their match against Serbia, and the strategy was effective for them to win, 2-1. One of the main keys was the entry of Gjivai Zechiël, who gave a new dynamism in the middle of the second half of the match. After a draw against Greece three days before the match, coach Xavi had to make important decisions on his line-up. As a precaution, he did not follow the return of defender Jurriën Timber who had just returned from a serious injury. Additionally, Jan Paul van Hecke and Lutsharel Geertruida - both regulars in defense - are also absent. This left Virgil van Dijk as the only natural right-footed defender left at the back and Xavi slotted him into the right centre-back position, something Liverpool's star defender has not been able to do for a long time. Xavi's choice of Teun Koopmeiners to partner Van Dijk in the center of defense was also surprising – a move aimed at surprising Serbia with an "inverted libero" who could step up in midfield. In this set-up, the role of incoming players such as Gjivai Zechiël became important. Once he was brought on, the Dutch midfield had more free options and he was able to open up the Serbian defense on several occasions.

Zechiël showed his ability to create space and support Xavi to create a "free man" in the middle. Zechiël not only contributed to the stability of the midfield but was also instrumental in increasing the tempo, causing them to reverse and break Serbia's momentum. Despite the glitches and the lack of regular starters, the Netherlands stood up under the leadership of Van Dijk and the incoming reserves. All in all, the win is proof that Oranje can adapt and build a new system even with key injuries and absences. This is a good indication for coach Xavi who is constantly looking for the best combination for his team especially towards bigger tournaments. This victory boosts the Netherlands' confidence and shows how tactical innovation and a deep bench are essential to a team's success.

What's next

After this victory, the Netherlands are expected to continue their preparations for the next matches, where Xavi can once again implement his new strategies. The return of Jurriën Timber and other regulars in defense could provide deeper options for the coach. Zechiël's performance will certainly be the basis for his possible bigger role in future matches.
