Context

Dani Olmo, 28, is an integral part of Barcelona and Spain's national team, known for his ability to create chances and attack. His position in the midfield could be the main reason why Bayern Munich are eyeing him, who are looking for ways to strengthen their squad for the upcoming matches in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Why it matters

Bayern Munich's interest in Dani Olmo shows their intention to strengthen their attack in the Bundesliga and in European competitions. His ability in the midfield could be the key to building a stronger team, especially in the upcoming summer transfer window. On the other hand, Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United continue to monitor potential midfield signings, reflecting the continued competition in the transfer market.

Talk is heating up in the European transfer market as the next window approaches. According to the latest report, Bayern Munich are ready to table a bid of as much as £69m for Barcelona and Spain forward Dani Olmo, 28. Olmo has long been praised for his ability between the lines and in the final third, and the Bavarians' camp seem intent on bolstering their attack next season. Meanwhile, the position of Trent Alexander-Arnold, 27, is said to be clear: he does not intend to leave Real Madrid. The news comes despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool for the England defender, who continues to be regarded as top-caliber in the modern full-back role. Manchester United are also not lagging behind in scouting potential reinforcements. The Red Devils are said to be keeping tabs on 22-year-old Spain left-back Alejandro Balde, who could move out of Barcelona in January if certain market conditions are met. In England, both Liverpool and Manchester United have an interest in Micky van de Ven of the Netherlands. However, a hefty fee would be required to land the 25-year-old centre-back from Tottenham, who are clearly keen to protect their main wall at the back. In Serie A, AC Milan's England duo — defender Fikayo Tomori, 28, and midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 30 — are both expected to leave next year when their contracts expire in June. It will be a big deal for the Rossoneri how they revise their center and back line.

Bayern also have a target in Portugal: the German champions are interested in Benfica's 24-year-old defender Tomas Araujo, a sign of the Munich club's continued search for defensive depth. Barcelona continue to monitor Norway's Erling Haaland, 26, hoping to become a more realistic target in the summer. It comes after Manchester City were found to have breached the Premier League's financial rules, something it is believed could open the door to potentially major changes to their squad. In Rome, AS Roma are expected to double their asking price for Chelsea target Manu Kone, 25, to £86m by January. This is after the Blues reportedly turned down the chance to sign the France midfielder for £43m last summer, according to reports. In Madrid, it was revealed that three big offers came in for 23-year-old Spanish defender Raul Asencio this summer — including from Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool — but he opted to stay at Real Madrid. And in Italy, Fiorentina reportedly have an option to buy Spanish full-back Alex Jimenez from Bournemouth for £17m, part of a loan deal currently in place between both camps. As January approaches, it's clear that the race for major signings across Europe will heat up. As always, the situation remains in flux and these matters are subject to change at any time depending on funding, mutual interests of the teams, and the progress of negotiations.

What's next

Bayern Munich are expected to table a concrete offer for Dani Olmo, which could open the door for bigger talks in the transfer market. Meanwhile Premier League clubs can continue their scouting efforts for targets like Alejandro Balde and Micky van de Ven, who could be an important part of their player development. The next few weeks will be critical in developing clubs' strategies going into the summer transfer window.
