Two-Time Ballon d'Or Winner Alexia Putellas to Sign with London City Lionesses after Leaving Barcelona
After a 14-year spell at Barcelona, Alexia Putellas opted to join London City Lionesses in the Women's Super League, turning down other offers including from Boston Legacy of the United States.
It has been announced that Alexia Putellas, two-time Ballon d'Or winner and one of the best women's players in football, will sign for the London City Lionesses team after ending her contract with Barcelona. Putellas left Barcelona in May after 14 years in which he became a team legend and won 38 trophies, including 10 league championships and 4 Champions League titles.
According to sources close to Putellas, he chose the London City Lionesses over Boston Legacy of the United States, while many other big teams also sought his services. No deal has been finalized yet according to the Lionesses side, but there is full confidence that it will be close soon.

After finishing sixth in their first season in the top division, it was a big step to claim Putellas as a WSL megastar.
Putellas has a record 232 goals from 507 games at Barcelona, second on the all-time appearance list and was also a champion with Spain at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. He also helped Spain reach the Euro 2025 finals after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him ahead of Euro 2022.
Putellas last showed his elite game after regaining his health, earning him the Ballon d'Or in 2021 and 2022. He joined the London City Lionesses as a free agent and is expected to receive a big salary with his new team.
