Aston Villa are planning to further strengthen their midfielder line-up by potentially signing Ilaix Moriba from Celta Vigo this upcoming summer transfer window. According to Football Insider, the Birmingham-based team are looking at the possibility of signing central midfielder Moriba, who is currently 23 years old. Aston Villa have put their proposed offer at £15 million (equivalent to over €17 million), but Celta's current demand of £25 million (€29 million) is even higher. Such a gap in valuation could be an obstacle to quick talks, but there are indications that Celta will need to cut their salary budget and raise funds from the sale of several players this summer, so their final price may drop. Moriba featured in the Celta squad 48 times in the 2025/2026 season, where he contributed two goals and four assists. His significant participation and consistent play in the midfield proves his value to the club. However, based on the report, Aston Villa are confident that they can use their Champions League qualification for 2026/2027 as the main factor to persuade Moriba to head to the Premier League.

Moriba's involvement in the high level of club football in Spain and the potential move to England is highly anticipated not only by Aston Villa fans but also by football supporters around the world. Regarding this, expect more news in the coming days as the negotiations continue.

What's next

Negotiations between Aston Villa and Celta Vigo are expected to continue, especially with the latter's need to raise funds.
