Atletico set €490M release clause on Julian Álvarez; 'not for sale' – report
Ruben Uria reports: Julian Álvarez's contract includes a €490 million release clause and no add-ons or special conditions — Atletico clearly won't sell the player for less.
Barcelona and other interested parties have received a new obstacle in their plans to acquire Julian Álvarez: Ruben Uria has reportedly revealed that the player's release clause at Atletico Madrid is set at €490 million. According to the report, there are no deductions, no special conditions for Spanish clubs, and no exceptions based on time or circumstances.
Uria emphasized that the figures circulating in the media — which say the clause is between €120–€150 million — do not correspond to reality. As proof, he used the €150 million offered by Real Madrid as an indication that the content of the clause could not be low. If it was only €120 million, Real Madrid would not have issued a €150 million bid.
The report also revealed the dynamics behind the public and national scene between the two teams in Madrid. The relationship between Atletico president Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and Florentino Pérez was intense, and reached the point where there was no conversation or agreement between them. When Real Madrid inquired about Álvarez, Atletico immediately shut down any talks.
He said Real Madrid's public statement served as a way to show that Florentino Pérez kept his promise to table a €150 million offer for a high-level player. But Atletico's position is clear: they will not sell Álvarez — not for €100 million, not for €150 million, and not for anything less than the full release clause.
This situation poses a major hurdle for Barcelona, who reportedly only have a limited capacity to offer around €120 million at the moment. In other words, the possibility of Álvarez moving to Barcelona this holiday seems very small if the principle laid down by Atletico remains and if Ruben Uria's report is true.
