New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has made clear the direction the team is heading in this summer's transfer window. According to Iraola, although Jeremy Jacquet (from Rennes) and Victor Munoz (from Osasuna) have joined this summer, the team still needs a quality winger to fill the big gap left by Mohamed Salah. Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate have all left this window, making Liverpool even more desperate to find the right replacement. Additionally, several key players such as Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leoni are currently recovering from injury, making every move in the transfer market critical. In his statement to the media in Chicago as part of Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States, Iraola said, "It is difficult to determine how many we will take. Since the market is open, we must always be open to opportunities that will help strengthen the team. But it is clear—we need a winger. There are also positions affected by injury so our next step must be careful."

Iraola also pointed to the big role of veteran players such as Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Joe Gomez. Amid speculations about Alisson's departure, Iraola was clear about their importance as a pillar for the new members, "Their experience is very important, especially in the adaptation process of the newcomers. I'm sure they will help a lot." Also discussed was the situation of Alexis Mac Allister, who after showing glimpses of his skills at the World Cup for Argentina, is now attracting interest from teams in Spain. Iraola is clearly not interested in letting go of the midfield star, "It's natural that other teams want our good players—that's how the market works. But I'd rather keep my good players than let them go. My focus is to make the team even stronger." As Liverpool continue to build their final squad for the new season, fans are eagerly waiting to see who else will be added to Iraola's ranks. The next few weeks in the transfer market will be key to whether Liverpool can overcome losses and injuries and regain confidence as an elite club in the Premier League.

What's next

Liverpool are expected to continue their search for a winger to fill the gap left by Salah. With players like Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley currently recovering from injury, every decision in the transfer market will be important.
