Context

Azzedine Ounahi is a Moroccan international who was recognized for his excellent performance at the World Cup 2022. His current club is in Ligue 1, and his qualities suit Ajax's needs in midfield, looking to add quality and depth to their team.

Why it matters

Ajax's interest in Azzedine Ounahi shows their intention to strengthen their midfield during the summer transfer window. His ability as a ball-carrier and co-ordinator of the game can be vital in the team's attack formation, which is essential to their traditional style of tactical football. Despite the challenges of last season, the signing of Ounahi could give new impetus to their Eredivisie campaign.

Key Points

  • Transfer news: Míchel wants Azzedine Ounahi to go to.
  • Ajax continues to chase targets this summer and Azzedine Ounahi is on the list.
  • Azzedine Ounahi remains central to Ajax's plans.
Ajax continue to keep an eye on the market this open summer transfer window, and one of the loud names being linked with the Amsterdammers is Azzedine Ounahi. According to reports in the Netherlands, Ajax have an interest in the Moroccan international, and Míchel is also hinting tomorrow at seeing the midfielder move to Amsterdam. While there have been no official offers or confirmed negotiations from either side, the club is clearly pushing options to strengthen the middle of their game. Ounahi was recognized at the highest level after Morocco's remarkable campaign at the 2022 World Cup, where his reputation as a ball-carrier and coordinator of the game in the middle rose. He is known for his ability to carry the ball in tight spaces, speed in transitioning from defense to attack, and ability to produce a pass in the final third. Such a profile is compatible with Ajax's traditional style of ball control and systematic attack formation.

On Ajax's side, the team's direction is focused on adding quality and depth to the midfield after underwhelming seasons in the Eredivisie and in Europe. Finding a player with the technical level, energy and ability to dictate the tempo—qualities Ounahi could provide if a potential move materializes—remains a priority. However, it should also be considered that Ounahi still has a contract with his current club, so any progress will go through the proper process and possibly intense negotiations. For now, Ajax is careful not to rush any big moves. The club usually moves under a clear framework: analyzing the team's needs, weighing the value of the target, and making sure the player is compatible with the philosophy of the academy and the first team. As the transaction window rolls on, expect reports to continue to emerge regarding potential player arrivals and departures in Amsterdam. For Ajax supporters, Ounahi's name being attached to the club is an indication that the management is seriously pursuing the long-sought piece in midfield: a creative connector who can open up the defense and raise the level of the attack. On the other hand, this matter will remain on the horizon until there is no official confirmation from the parties involved. For now, it's clear that Ajax has its sights set on the market—and Ounahi's name is one of the solutions being looked at.

What's next

While Ajax continue to monitor the transfer market, their pursuit of Ounahi is expected to continue. Should the move go through, it could have a positive impact on Ounahi's player development, especially at an Eredivisie club known for molding talents. However, the details of his contract with the current club must be settled before any negotiations can proceed.
