Barcelona impressed with Pedro Porro in the United States, but will sign

According to Mundodeportivo.

Context

Pedro Porro, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur, has shown impressive ability in his matches for Spain. His performances in the knockout stages against Portugal, Belgium and France underlined his value as a full-back, offering speed and the ability to get involved in attack, fitting the style of La Liga clubs such as Barcelona.

Why it matters

Pedro Porro's impressive performances for Spain in the United States have highlighted his potential as an integral part of any La Liga club. With his ability to contribute in both defense and attack, he is becoming a target for teams like Barcelona, who are watching his progress. His current contract with Tottenham poses a barrier, but his performances have certainly prompted scouts in La Liga and the Premier League.

Key Points

• Barcelona impressed with Pedro Porro in the United States, but will sign.
• Barcelona are eyeing Pedro Porro after his impressive performances for Spain in the United States—including goals against Austria and France in Dallas—but he just signed a new contract with Tottenham so is not an immediate target.
• Pedro Porro impresses in Can Barça but acaba de renovar.

Barcelona still do not consider signing another right-back in the current window an urgent need. At the moment, the team has enough options in this position with Jules Koundé, Eric Garcia, Xavi Espart and Hèctor Fort to fill the defense on the right in the coming season. However, Pedro Porro's clean and productive campaign for Spain in action in the United States did not escape Barça's radar. According to reports, both president Joan Laporta and director deportivo Deco have been fascinated by the series of big matches featuring the Tottenham right-back. Deco personally witnessed Spain's three consecutive knockout matches—the round of 16 against Portugal, the quarterfinal against Belgium, and the semifinal against France. In the last mentioned match in Dallas, Laporta was there and saw Porro score a goal. Prior to this, he also scored a goal in the round of 32 against Austria, proof of his threat not only in defense but also in attack. Porro will celebrate his 27th birthday on September 13, an age considered prime years for a full-back. He is known for his pace, solid coverage of wide areas, and sharp attacking involvement—traits that fit the high-line, ball-dominant system that Barcelona typically plays. With his style that is aggressive in the overlap and smooth in the final ball, it is clear why many were attracted by the form he displayed on the big stages.

But even though his performances have been remarkable, this does not mean that Barcelona have an immediate move. First, there is more depth in the team's internal options on the right that can be played with depending on the tactical need. Second, Porro just signed a new contract with Tottenham, making any potential negotiations more complicated at this point. Because of this, it is more realistic to remain in the spotlight and analyze Barça's interest rather than moving forward with a concrete step in the market. For Porro's part, his current focus is to continue in solid form for his national team and the club he represents in England. As for Barcelona, it is logical to keep an eye on the players who come in and out of the news especially as international tournaments in the United States become a huge store of talent. But based on the current state of the roster on the right side and Porro's new contract, there is no indication yet that Barça will deviate from its plan to rely first on its own roster of players. All in all, two points are clear: Pedro Porro's name has been buzzing in Barcelona because of his recent games, and Laporta and Deco themselves have been remarkable to watch in the United States. However, acquiring another right-back remains a non-priority for Barca—and if that direction does change, it likely won't happen until Porro's deal with Tottenham is new and firm.

What's next

While Barcelona are in no rush to recruit a new right-back, Porro's continued development could open up opportunities in the future. If his good form continues, Barcelona may rethink their transfer strategy in the next window. With his 27th birthday approaching, his career is at a critical stage, which could affect his chances at the 2026 World Cup.
