Barcelona are confident of completing the transfer of a veteran star from Portugal, according to renowned transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano. This news comes amid a summer in which the club's direction was clear—strengthen the attack and prepare the team under new coach Hansi Flick. According to the report, Barcelona will focus on bringing in attacking pieces this window, including the likes of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, and Jesse Bisiwu. Following that move, the club now wants to add experience and balance to the roster—and that's where the Portuguese veteran's planned transfer comes into play. Although no details about the length of the contract or the value of the deal are being released at this time, the report insists that Barça are positive about closing the deal. Timing is important for Barcelona. In the new phase under Flick, the priority will be to have deep options on every line and a team better suited to the expected high-intensity game—quick in transition, aggressive in pressure, and clear structure on the ball. The addition of a Portuguese veteran is seen to bring leadership within the dressing room and added quality to tight matches in La Liga and on the continental stage. It must still be stressed that there has been no official announcement from Barcelona or the player's camp. Usually, such transfers will go through final agreement on personal terms, medical, and formal registration before being officially released. However, judging by the tone of the report, the club is confident that they will be able to deliver the expected results in the end. In the wider context, Barcelona are clearly aiming to combine the energy and pace of the new-look offensive line with the experience of a veteran. In a league as competitive as La Liga, and at a time when the level of title rivals is rising, a balance of youth and experience is key. It can also help build culture within the team—an aspect often emphasized under coaches who seek a clear playing identity. Pending the final move, how Barcelona will balance their roster and how a Portuguese veteran will be added to the tight competition at the position will remain on the radar of supporters. The club is expected to release further details once all requirements are closed. Until then, the message from Barcelona is clear: they are aggressive and focused on building a team ready for big matches under Hansi Flick.

What's next

In the coming weeks, negotiations are expected to continue to complete the transfer of the Portuguese veteran. Consideration should also be given to the steps required for the final agreement, including a personal term and medical examination. The summer transfer window gives Barcelona an opportunity to strengthen their squad, and this move could be key to their future success.
