Bayer Leverkusen have officially landed one of European football's brightest youngsters after completing the signing of Afonso Moreira from Olympique Lyon for 32 million euros.
The 21-year-old side player, also a pillar of the Portugal Under-21, has signed a long-term contract with the 'Aspirines' valid until 30 June 2031, according to a club statement.
Moreira arrives in the Bundesliga after a breakout season in France: he recorded 8 goals and 11 assists in a total of 37 appearances in Ligue 1, Coupe de France and the Europa League. The numbers make him stand out as Leverkusen's target in the market.

His rhythm and intensity are compatible with our game philosophy. He will bring an unexpected element and creativity to our offense."
In his first statement as a new Leverkusen player, Moreira said "I am honored to wear this jersey. From the first conversation, I understood that Leverkusen matches my ambition. The management has shown a clear project and they sincerely believe in my potential."
Moreira's move is a sign of Leverkusen's aggressive targeting of young talent as it prepares for further domestic and continental challenges.
