As FIFA conducts an investigation into the incidents that occurred after the World Cup final, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente strongly criticized the behavior of some Argentina players. FIFA reportedly ordered one of the disciplinary prosecutors to report back on the heated clashes that took place on the field after Spain won 1–0 in extra time and beat the defending champions. According to the report, there was a direct physical altercation between Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes and Spain players Eric Garcia and Gavi. It was also mentioned that Rodri, captain of Spain, was hit in the stomach when passing close to Argentina defender Nahuel Molina. In an interview with Spanish public broadcaster TVE, De la Fuente said he did not see the incident at the time because he was "having fun with other people," but he clearly called the actions "unacceptable" and "unacceptable." De la Fuente did not hesitate to praise his team's reaction in the midst of trouble. "I want to highlight our behavior in the face of that kind of aggression and provocation," he said. According to him, Spain's players remained calm and behaved professionally.

Argentina's assistant coach, Roberto Ayala, issued an apology regarding his clash with Dani Olmo; he described the incident as a push and not a punch. FIFA did not give details about the prosecutor's exact mandate, or whether it would seek statements from Spain's players and staff. FIFA rules allow a special prosecutor to "request the opening of disciplinary proceedings and propose sanctions against member associations, clubs and individuals." FIFA has also not set a timetable for any charges, and it is unclear when a possible suspension or punishment will be implemented as Argentina has no scheduled competitive matches in the coming months. A controversial part of the ceremony discussed the actions of both teams: the Spain squad provided a guard of honor for the Argentina players as they approached the podium to accept the medal from the U.S. President Donald Trump, but a few minutes after Rodri raised the trophy, most of the Argentina squad turned their backs on the ceremony. FIFA's investigation will remain the center of attention as it examines whether further action will be taken against those involved.

What's next

It is expected that FIFA will issue recommendations based on their investigation, which could result in sanctions for Argentina. These measures could affect the players' season outlook and their performance in upcoming tournaments, including the World Cup 2026.
