• Former Arsenal fan favorite training with Crystal Palace ahead of possible move.

Takehiro Tomiyasu trained with Crystal Palace and is in talks for a potential move to Selhurst Park, according to the report. The Japanese defender—once a favorite of Arsenal supporters—is currently being looked at by the south‑London side as they look for added depth at the back ahead of the start of the new Premier League season. Adding to the situation, Venezia's attempt to acquire Tomiyasu seems to be in jeopardy. As the Italian side slows down, the possibility of the 25-year-old versatile defender staying in England where he is used to the speed and physicality of the league is getting stronger. This setup—training first before signing—is a common way for a club to assess a player's condition and fit into the coach's system, while ironing out the details of the contract. Tomiyasu is known for his ability to play as right‑back and center‑back, and his discipline in defense. This combination of position and style is what makes him so valuable in systems that require a solid backline and good build‑up from the back. For Crystal Palace, looking to maintain their good form and be more consistent against midfield opponents, the addition of a proven defender will be a big help. As for Venezia, delaying their attempt could open the door for other clubs to swoop in. Competition is at a high level in the market this summer, and when a Premier League club enters the conversation, the pace of negotiations can often change quickly. If talks progress at Selhurst Park, the next step will be the medical and contract finalization before the transfer becomes formal. For now, it's clear that Tomiyasu's priority is to stay in top condition and show Palace his worth. As his training continues, Premier League and Serie A watchers will be keeping a close watch on his next move—whether it ends up being a Crystal Palace signing or whether Venezia will make another move to sign the Japanese defender. Regardless of the outcome, the issue is expected to be resolved before the preseason schedule tightens and before the formal opening of the new campaign.

What's next

If Crystal Palace and Tomiyasu agree terms, we could see an official announcement on his move to Selhurst Park. Meanwhile, Venezia may look for another target as their plans for Tomiyasu seem to be nailed down. This situation is becoming more complicated as the transfer window continues to progress, with many Premier League clubs looking to strengthen their line-ups.
