Why it matters

Aymeric Laporte transfer rumors are not new and are a common part of the summer transfer window for La Liga clubs. Edin Terzic's rejection of these news shows his focus on the current situation of the team and the development of the players. Such matters can affect team morale if not handled properly.

  • Edin Terzic did not budge on transfer rumors with Aymeric Laporte being linked to Barcelona.
  • La stoccata di Terzic al Barça: "Laporte? Stessa storia, è cambiato solo il giocatore".
After a thrilling pre-season match by Athletic Club against Sestao River, Edin Terzic, the team's head coach, was quick to deny the news that was coming out about a possible transfer of star defender Aymeric Laporte to Barcelona. In the post-match interview, Terzic was quizzed about Barcelona's alleged interest in Laporte. He didn't hesitate and answered bluntly: "This is not a new story — the only thing that has changed is the name of the player." In this statement, he indicated that such transfer matters have been happening at Athletic Club for a long time, especially during the transfer window. Laporte is not the only one who has been the center of rumors before. Even Nico Williams and other popular Athletic players are always mentioned whenever big clubs are interested, especially in Spain. According to Terzic, it is better for the team and the fans to focus on the present rather than being affected by the recurring transfer issue.

Apart from suppressing the story about Laporte, Terzic also praised the contribution of their Spanish national team stars — Laporte, Unai Simón, and Nico Williams — who are now on a three-week vacation after their successful campaign with La Roja in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The coach expects to see them again in training to facilitate the integration back to the club after the busy international calendar. "We can't wait for them to come back and start training with us," said Terzic, showing high morale and eagerness to make Athletic Club's next season a great one. Terzic's handling of the situation shows his dedication to maintaining calm and discipline in the team amid the noisy transfer market. The coach reaffirmed that there is no truth to the news and that there are no current negotiations to transfer Laporte to Barcelona — a significant step to maintain the strength and focus of Athletic Club in the upcoming season and the tougher competition, especially with players who have come from high-level international matches. As the news continues about the moves of Europe's top teams, Laporte and other Athletic stars are sure to remain the center of attention. But for now, Terzic's message is clear: group unity and preparation are more important than speculation.

What's next

Athletic Club are expected to continue their preparations for the upcoming season as players such as Laporte, Unai Simón, and Nico Williams return from their holidays.
