According to reports, an understanding was reached on the structure of the operation: a loan with a fee of approximately 5 million euros and a bailed obligation petitioned for 25 million euros. The transfer is not yet formal until the issue of roster movement is resolved: the paperwork is expected to follow only after the departure of Roberto Piccoli to Bologna, which will open up space in Fiorentina's attack. Once executed, Pellegrino will get a five-year contract offering an estimated 1.5 million euros net per season. The Argentine's arrival is part of a wider team building under coach Fabio Grosso in celebration of Fiorentina's Centenario season and Commisso's managerial project. It is thought to be the ninth reinforcement signing for the coach to strengthen the front office as the club prepares for long-term goals.

Last season, Pellegrino scored a total of 12 goals — nine in Serie A and three in the Coppa Italia — as an indication of his potential as a contributor in the attacking line. Fiorentina's move also comes as a result of pressure from Bologna's interest in Piccoli, which led the Viola board to push through the operation to complete their frontline overhaul plan. Until the formal announcement, both clubs will remain cautious in publishing official details. But from the existing understanding, it is clear that Fiorentina are ready to invest in rebuilding the attack and give Grosso an extra option in facing the upcoming challenges in Serie A.
