Genoa: Sale of Brooke Norton-Cuffy may open

According to Tuttomercatoweb.

Context

Brooke Norton-Cuffy is a key part of Genoa's lineup, and his possible sale raises questions about the team's future. His departure could provide much-needed funds for new recruits, which are vital to their season outlook in Serie A. Genoa, led by Daniele De Rossi, will have to adapt quickly to these changes to maintain their competitiveness.

Why it matters

The sale of Brooke Norton-Cuffy has a major impact on Genoa's future in Serie A. The funds from his departure could be used to acquire a new center-attack, which is essential for building a stronger team next season. The ability to recruit new players will help them fight for a higher position in the league.

Key Points

• Genoa: Sale to Brooke Norton-Cuffy may open.
• Genoa is in a hurry to settle the mercato: the departure of Brooke Norton-Cuffy, estimated at around €20M, could provide funds to hire a new center-attack to support Lorenzo Colombo.
• Genoa, Norton-Cuffy può unblockare il mercato: l'esterno verso la Premier, poi la punta.

There are only three days until the new Serie A season finally kicks off and Genoa are in the final stages of their market. Even before the start of the league, the first challenge for Daniele De Rossi's side is against Ascoli in the round of 32 of the Coppa Italia this Sunday night — a single-elimination test that will serve as the first litmus test for the Grifone's initial form. Despite several sports and tournament preparations, it is clear to De Rossi that some positions on the roster still need to be filled. Most clearly the need for an alternative center-attack that can give rest and competition to Lorenzo Colombo, who has been officially rescued by the club from Milan. The departures of Caleb Ekuban and Victor Ekhator leave a void in the attack that must be filled before the start of the league series. Currently the biggest issue hindering Genoa's immediate move in the market is the possible sale of Brooke Norton-Cuffy. According to reports, interest from the Premier League is high and Genoa (Villa Rostan) value Norton-Cuffy at around 20 million euros. The removal of the respected right-band will open up the necessary financial capacity to accommodate an acquisition of punta or other chasing positions.

There are also names emerging as potential targets in the final moments of the market; this includes the matter of Ferguson, who according to reports could return to Serie A after his experience at Roma. However, no confirmed announcement has been made: all of Genoa's moves depend on whether they can send Norton-Cuffy and the board's final decision. The next 48 to 72 hours will be critical. If the sale goes through, supporters will expect to see immediate movement from the sporting director towards acquiring a centre-back to add depth to the attack. If Norton-Cuffy remains on the roster, Genoa will likely wait again for alternative situations or the coach will first trust Colombo with the starting plan. Overall, the decision on the English player will have a big impact on the overall design of the team for the coming campaign — and the match against Ascoli will be the first chance to see how ready Genoa are before entering the league series.

What's next

In the remaining days of the transfer window, Genoa are expected to be active in the market to fill gaps in their roster. Norton-Cuffy's departure could allow the signing of new players, including an alternative centre-attack to help Lorenzo Colombo. Their match against Ascoli will serve as an important test for their new form and strategy before the start of Serie A.
