The estimate for the demolition of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) has almost doubled, as Ignazio La Russa promotes an alternative solution to not demolishing the arena.
The matter of Milan's new stadium has been given renewed financial weight. According to the report, Inter and Milan initially budgeted around €127 million for the demolition of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) — covering deconstruction, concrete disposal, site rehabilitation, and incidental costs. But due to the increase in the price of materials caused by the international crisis and the heavier cost of disposing of the structural parts, the total cost is said to have almost doubled, surpassing the numbers previously passed to the board of mayor Giuseppe Sala.
In the middle of the cost tension, the suggestion of Ignazio La Russa, well-known San Siro supporter and Nerazzurri fan, rose. Supported by the Fratelli d'Italia, the president of the Senate proposed to grant the two teams a free lot within Milan in exchange for not demolishing the Meazza, which could also be reserved for concerts every summer.

For Riccardo Truppo, capogruppo of the FdI, all possibilities remain open: rising costs prevent the final farewell to the current stadium and it is likely that the next mayor will make the final decision, while the center-right is ready to engage with the Region.
Meanwhile, even before the final project is completed, environmental issues arise in relation to the plan to move the Patroclo tunnel. There is a risk that such work will skip the processes of Valutazione Ambientale Strategica (VAS) and Valutazione di Impatto Ambientale (VIA), something that is mentioned in the document titled "Documento di Scoping" of Stadio San Siro SpA. In the text, Inter and Milan defined the interventions that must go through an environmental review and the associated compensation, but the issue of the tunnel remains critical — cause for concern by environmentalist groups.
While the city and supporters await a final direction, it still hangs in the balance whether to go ahead with the new stadium, maintain and revise the San Siro, or choose a hybrid solution that is more fiscally and environmentally acceptable.
