Inter sold Matteo Motta to Pescara; knocking on

By Sports.

Context

Matteo Motta is a product of Inter's youth academy and had a loan stint at Lumezzane before his transfer to Pescara. His sale is part of Inter's wider strategy in the transfer market, as they continue to monitor promising talents such as Luca Reggiani.

Why it matters

The sale of Matteo Motta to Pescara is a step for his development as a player, giving him the opportunity to get more minutes in Serie C. Despite not making it to Inter's senior team, the 50% sell-on clause ensures that the Nerazzurri will still benefit from his potential future development. This move shows Inter's continued commitment to player development in their youth academy.

Key Points

• Inter sold Matteo Motta to Pescara; knocking on.
• Inter sold youth product Matteo Motta to Pescara with a 50% sell-on clause.
• Inter request Reggiani from Borussia Dortmund and sold Motta - Yahoo Sports.

Inter have officially sold left-back Matteo Motta to Pescara, confirming that 50 percent of the future sell-on fee will remain with the Nerazzurri. Coming from their youth academy, Motta also came from a loan stint at Lumezzane and, at the age of 21, has yet to play a competitive minute for Inter's senior team. He will now drop down to Serie C with Pescara for more regular minutes and continued development, while Inter ensure they have a stake in any future sale if the young full-back's market value grows further. At the same time, Germany's Bild newspaper reported that Inter have once again knocked at Borussia Dortmund to inquire about the availability of 18-year-old central defender Luca Reggiani. A product of Sassuolo's academy, Reggiani moved to Dortmund in February 2024 and quickly rose to prominence. Progressing rapidly, he even earned his first senior cap with Italy in June 2026 at the age of 18 — testament to the speed of his rise at international level.

However, it seems that any possible agreement will not be easy for Inter. According to the same report, Dortmund want to keep the Italian prospect and recently extended his contract. Because of this, it is unlikely that Inter will get favorable conditions, especially since Reggiani is important to the German team's long-term plan. The Nerazzurri are still looking for another central defender to add to the rotation, so whether or not these talks progress is crucial to their window. In addition, Inter have backed out of their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero. Instead, the Argentina international is said to be undergoing a medical for an estimated €40m move to Atletico Madrid, according to reports. If it continues, this is an indication that Inter's options in the market have narrowed, so it is more important to carefully filter other targets in the position. For Inter, this simultaneous move in the market — disposing of Motta with a dedicated sell-on and betting on Reggiani's potential — shows the club is looking for a balanced strategy: income and flexibility in youth exits, and aggressive scouting for premium defensive talent. So far, no deal has been finalized for Reggiani and it is clear that Dortmund's position will remain strong. It remains to be seen if the Nerazzurri will succeed in interfering with the Germans' plans, or if they will turn to an alternative target as the end of the window approaches.

What's next

With Motta moving to Pescara, Inter seem to be getting more aggressive in their pursuit of midfield signings, particularly Luca Reggiani from Borussia Dortmund. However, reports suggest that Inter will struggle to land Reggiani due to Dortmund's desire to keep hold of their rising star. At the same time, Inter have backed out of their pursuit of Cristian Romero, who is traveling to Atletico Madrid, leaving them with the need to reassess their defensive options.
