Context

Curtis Jones is a promising talent from Liverpool with great potential in player development. His move to Inter reflects the continued rise of young players in the transfer market, especially with Serie A clubs looking to bolster their squads with young, highly skilled players.

Why it matters

Curtis Jones' move to Inter is an important step for their midfield, which aims to improve their control and quality in the game. His ability to carry the ball from deeper in the midfield gives a new dimension to their attack, which could be the key to their success in Serie A. With Davide Frattesi leaving for Lazio, the signing of Jones allowed to fill this gap in their lineup.

Confirmed: Inter have completed the transfer of Curtis Jones from Liverpool in a deal worth around €35 million. According to the report, the move has been in talks for some time and there was even an earlier offer rejected, but that has not stopped the Nerazzurri from pursuing their interest until the deal is finalised. One of the main reasons for the hiring was Jones' contract situation. The Englishman's contract runs until 2027 and reports say he has refused talks for an extension, something Inter used to get him before the situation got too old. In this way, the Milan-based champions acquired a player without paying a very high fee compared to if the player renewed and his market value increased. Second, technical ability: Jones is known for his ability to carry the ball from deep in the midfield and break the organized defense of the opponent. It's a different profile to Davide Frattesi — who has now moved to Lazio — who is better known as a receiver at the end of the attack and isn't as good at opening up defenses with the dribble or progressive ball-carrying. Jones' arrival is expected to provide a greater level of control and quality in the middle of the team.

Third, rejuvenating the midfield. Frattesi has been left out, while current senior options such as Hakan Calhanoglu (32) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (who is nearing 40) raise concerns over the average age of the squad. Although Aleksandar Stankovic has potential and is a good long-term project as he is only 21, immediate wins in every match are not guaranteed. This is where Jones comes in: he offers a combination of experience at the highest level and a lower average age for midfield. All in all, Inter's logic behind signing Curtis Jones is clear: acquiring talent before his contract expires, adding a technical element in the middle, and reducing the average age of the squad to make the game more immediately aggressive and progressive. For Liverpool, their midfield plan will have a big impact depending on how they replace what has been lost. What's next

Now that the transfer has been completed, Jones is expected to be part of Inter's main lineup in the next few matches in Serie A. His development as a player will be crucial to his integration into the team, and he could contribute to their goals in the league. The fans are eager to see how he can improve their midfield in the coming season.
