His dedication and drive to succeed at Old Trafford shows the potential to be an integral part of the team in the future.

Key Points

• Young Jacob Devaney committed to succeeding at Manchester United,.
• Jacob Devaney is open to another loan this season, but his main goal is still to succeed at Manchester United.
• Youngster Devaney focused on making it at Man Utd.

Jacob Devaney is determined to do whatever it takes to succeed at Manchester United, even if it means going out on loan again this season. For the 19-year-old academy product, the main aim is to stay and make a mark in the Red Devils first team, while still being open to the possibility of going out on loan if that is the most effective path for his development as a professional player. Devaney featured heavily in the second half of last campaign with St Mirren in Scotland. He made 18 appearances and even started both legs of the play-off final against Partick Thistle—matches that sealed St Mirren's stay in the first division. This kind of experience in tough games is often a bridge for academy youngsters to mature the game, especially when it comes to the physicality, defensive discipline and speed of transition required in senior football. At Old Trafford, decisions are still being made on which of the young players will be included in Michael Carrick's first team for the new season. In a match in Helsinki on Saturday, Devaney was part of a second-division team made up exclusively of academy talents against Wrexham—an indication that the club is carefully weighing up the readiness of its prospects at a higher level of competition. For Devaney, the direction is clear: if another loan spell helps him get regular minutes and competitive experience, he's ready to go for it. But moving up the Manchester United hierarchy—from the academy to a solid role in the first team—remains the main target. This is the common path of many young Englishmen and academics: soak up senior minutes in different environments, then return more mature and ready to keep up with the intensity of the Premier League. It is also important to mention that the position of a youngster like Devaney is at a point where every minute in senior football is critical. A successful loan, as he showed at St Mirren, is not just about the quantity of games but also the quality of the responsibility he is given—starts in big matches and roles in high-pressure situations such as a play-off final. These are the type of tests that the coaching staff looks at in judging whether a player is ready for the bigger stages. While United await a final first-team squad, the outlook on Devaney's progress remains positive. Between a continuation at Old Trafford and a potential new loan, the key is the same: consistent play, discipline in daily training and intense competition for places. If his trajectory continues like it did at St Mirren, United have reason to see him as another reliable youngster from their own academy.

What's next

As Manchester United continue to evaluate their youth players, Devaney could see an opportunity to break into the first team or be loaned back to a Premier League club or Scottish Premiership team. His performance in the upcoming matches, including the matches in Helsinki, will be important in the decisions of the coaching staff. If he can get regular minutes, it will help his development as a professional player.
