LaLiga launches Guía Violeta: league-wide protocol

According to Mundodeportivo.

Why it matters

The launch of LaLiga's Guía Violeta is an important step towards creating a safer and more inclusive environment in La Liga football. Through this project, it is expected that incidents of discrimination and gender-based violence, which hinder the development of La Liga clubs and their supporters, will be reduced. This initiative demonstrates LaLiga's commitment to promote respect and equality at all levels of professional futbol in Spain.

Key Points

• LaLiga launched the Guía Violeta: protocol throughout the league.
• LaLiga is running the Guía Violeta this season on 42 teams as a measure against discrimination, gender-based violence, and harassment.
• LaLiga pone en marcha el protocolo Guia Violeta.

LaLiga launched this Thursday Guía Violeta, a protocol that will be implemented throughout the season by all 42 teams under the organization to prevent and immediately address cases of discrimination, gender-based violence, sexual violence, abuse and harassment—including incidents related to gender or abuse of authority. It covers the two levels of professional futbol in Spain, the first division and the second division, administered by LaLiga. The move is in response to ongoing calls for a safer and more inclusive environment in and around stadiums. At the start of the new season, Guía Violeta lays out clear direction on how league institutions and teams will act when an incident is reported, and how it can be prevented from occurring through clearer standards of behavior and respect. Although it focuses on serious forms of violations such as sexual violence, abuse and harassment, the initiative also emphasizes the fight against all forms of discrimination. This includes actions or statements that are defamatory because of gender, gender identity or expression, and any form of oppression that puts anyone—players, staff, officials, or supporters—in a precarious situation within the futbol ecosystem.

The extent of the implementation is contextually important: 42 teams in two professional divisions, which means that the message of respect and safety will flow through every city and stadium that hosts matches on the LaLiga calendar. With so many spectators and young people following the league, it is expected to set the tone for a higher standard of conduct in encounters, from the players' tunnel to the fans' seats. While the specific details of the mechanisms were not laid out in the announcement, the main goal is clear: earlier prevention and faster action when a case arises. This type of protocol usually leads to stronger coordination between the league and teams, a smoother flow of incident reporting, and a constant reminder to the public about zero tolerance for any form of violence and discrimination. For Filipino followers of LaLiga, this initiative is important not only as institutional news but as an indication of how modern futbol is changing its own culture. Guía Violeta describes concrete action to ensure that every match is not only about tactics and goals, but also about safety and respect for each other in the futbol community. All in all, the launch of Guía Violeta is a step by LaLiga to make the environment of professional futbol in Spain safer, fairer and more responsible. As the season progresses, it is hoped that a clearer message against discrimination and sexual violence will become the norm not only among teams and players, but also among the millions of fans inside and outside the stadium.

What's next

At the start of the new season, the Guía Violeta will be implemented by all 42 LaLiga teams, aiming to provide clear standards of behavior and respect. League institutions and teams are expected to respond quickly to reported incidents, aiming to prevent the occurrence of discrimination and violence. The success of this initiative could set a new standard for other leagues around the world, promoting a more inclusive sports environment.
