Football never stops—from transfers to controversies and fierce battles. Here are five stories this Thursday that you should not miss if you are tuned into the international scene and the build‑up of the World Cup 2026. 1) Yan Diomandé, close to Real Madrid According to a report by Marca newspaper, Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé is ready for his move to Real Madrid. Diomandé is said to be in Leipzig and is in the middle of taking care of his journey back to Madrid—a city he is not new to after playing for Leganés. The deal is expected to close in the next few hours, something that will add depth to the Spanish powerhouse's offshore side. Pending the final announcement, it is clear that Madrid are already busy developing wider options on the wings before the start of the next series of big competitions. 2) Infantino, defended the plan to privatize part of the World Cup Facing widespread criticism from various federations, FIFA president Gianni Infantino insisted on his proposal to privatize some parts of the World Cup in order to generate more revenue. In his stance, he said "this is a golden opportunity to promote the development of football around the world." Despite this, the resistance does not disappear from some sectors who fear its possible impact on management and equal distribution of benefits among countries and teams.

3) Possible punishment after Spain-Argentina in the World Cup 2026 final FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against five individuals in connection with the incident after the final whistle of the FIFA World Cup 2026 (Spain vs. Argentina). According to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, proceedings have been initiated for a possible violation of article 14, paragraph 1, letter i) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (aggression) against Argentinian players Nahuel Molina (two cases—one successful, one attempted) and Leandro Paredes (three cases), as well as coaching staff member Roberto Ayala (one case). In addition, there is a separate process for a possible violation of article 14, paragraph 1, letter b) (unsportsmanlike conduct) against Nahuel Molina (one case) and Thiago Almada (one case) from Argentina, and the Spanish player Pablo Martín Páez Gavira 'Gavi' (one case). The verdict is expected to be released soon. 4) Roberto Mancini, formally introduced by Italy After the "no" of Pep Guardiola, the alleged veto of Andrea Pirlo, and the resignation of Paolo Maldini and Leonardo from their respective duties, Roberto Mancini has been introduced as the new head coach of Italy. It is now waiting to see how Mancini will inspire the Azzurri and what formation and tactical principles he will serve in the new phase of the country's program—especially as the international windows approach and the preparation of the rivals for the next tournaments. 5) River Plate, slumped to its third straight loss The Clausura started badly for River Plate after suffering its third straight defeat—1-0 against Gimnasia. Because of this, the Millonarios sank to the bottom of their Group B table after two matchdays. Can't hide the annoyance in the camp; Coudet is cringing, and it is clear that River will need an immediate response to break the bad form before it becomes a deep campaign-wide crisis. All in all, from the potential big transfer in Madrid, to the heated issue of World Cup management and discipline after the final, and the change at the helm of Italy, to the troubled start of a giant club in Argentina—football news around the world continues to spin fast.
