Next step: the official draw tonight at 6pm (European time), where each participant will find out the eight they will face in the new tournament format. From the German side, four will compete: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart. For the Bundesliga's four representatives, the draw is critical as it will determine how tough their route will be in the league stage—the stage that replaces the traditional group stage and sets up eight matches each against eight different opponents. In the current format of the Champions League, 36 teams are included in the same table. Each club has 8 matches—usually divided into four at home and four on the road—against eight different opponents. The points accumulated in these matches will determine the position in the broad table. Usually, the top places advance directly, while those in the middle tier go through additional play-offs to get through to the knockout rounds. For Bayern Munich, expectations are always high in Europe and the form they bring to the Bundesliga will be immediately measured by the quality of the opponents drawn. Borussia Dortmund, one of the strongest Germans on the continent in recent years, will look for a good combination of opponents to ensure a good position in the table. RB Leipzig, known for their pace and discipline in the press, will try to once again show their consistency in Europe. Meanwhile, the Champions League is a big chance for VfB Stuttgart to prove they are ready for club football's biggest stage on the continent. The timing of the draw is also important for the preparation of each staff and coach: once the eight opponents are known, it is easier to stack the schedule between league, cup and Europe, as well as planning player rotation and response to fatigue or injury risk. This is also where the thorough scouting begins—identifying each opponent's system, strengths and weaknesses, and determining which matches to target for the three points. While full seeding details have yet to be revealed at the time of writing, expect the draw to feature a mixed bag of opponents—with heavyweights from England and Spain, as well as tricky mid-tables who could spring a surprise. What is certain: eight players will be assigned to each club. In the end, early momentum and collecting points was the key to not getting stuck in the tricky play-off zone.
