Tottenham's interest in Cody Gakpo reflects continued activity in the transfer market as the summer transfer window closes. For Liverpool, the decision to keep or release Gakpo could affect their strategy and team building in the future.

Key Points

• 'That Deal Could Go Through': Tottenham interested in signing.
• Tottenham, linked with Liverpool's Cody Gakpo.
• “That deal could get done” – Liverpool star could yet join Premier League rivals.

Transfer talks have heated up in the Premier League after Liverpool's Cody Gakpo's name has been linked to rivals Tottenham. According to journalist David Lynch, Spurs' interest makes sense and "that deal could go through," an indication that the move at Anfield is not over before the transfer window closes. Gakpo, a Netherlands international, is a known multi-positional attacker—able to play on both wings and in the middle of the front line. He arrived at Liverpool from PSV and quickly became an important piece in the rotation due to his combination of speed, height and ability to navigate space. During the times he was used as a winger or central scorer, he showed the ability to finish and drop into midfield to help build the attack—a trait favored in the modern system of pressing and quick transitions. For Tottenham, the interest is logical: the London rivals are looking for added quality and depth in attack to catch up in the tough league and European race. Gakpo's versatility matches the need for attackers who interchange positions and are adept at off-ball pressing. Such a profile gives the coach the ability to vary the formation and address different match scenarios—from positional control to quick counters. On Liverpool's side, the matter will remain sensitive. Any movement depends on the team's overall plan for the season: position balance on offense, each player's expected minutes, and overall recruiting direction. Typically, clubs look to see if an offer meets technical and business value before opening the door—especially if the player regularly contributes to the rotation and has the potential to grow in a role in the future. If talks progress, the impact on the run of the Premier League will be huge: Tottenham could get a ready-to-use attacker who can serve in a variety of roles, while Liverpool will be faced with the decision to retain attacking depth or open up space for a new force. Both situations are serious because of the thickness of the schedule and the high level of competition. So far, no deal has been finalized and a potential move remains under discussion. However, Lynch made it clear why the Spurs' interest is weighty—that, if negotiations progress in the right direction, "could go through." Expect supporters of both sides to focus on the next few days of the window, when decisions often speed up and clubs' priorities become clearer.

What's next

As talks continue, the situation could change depending on the moves of both Liverpool and Tottenham. If Spurs pursue their interest, we could see negotiations to bring Gakpo to London, which could bring about a change in their midfield signings and attack. On the other hand, Liverpool may decide to keep Gakpo to maintain their squad depth, especially in the upcoming Premier League matches.
