Manchester United have taken a major step forward in their plans for a new extraordinary stadium after they bought most of the land near Old Trafford. At the same time, the team decided not to participate in the EFL Trophy and National League Cup in the upcoming season.

Manchester United have made a historic move after they bought most of the land needed to build a new 100,000-seat stadium, just around the corner from their current home at Old Trafford. According to informants, Manchester United bought the so-called "triangle of roads" located between Wharfside Way, Europa Way, and John Gilbert Way, and near the parking lots behind the Stretford End. The total area of 25 hectares is enough to build a modern and massive stadium which is the goal of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the minority owner of the club who introduced this plan in March 2025 in London.

Prior to this news, action had been sluggish and there had been no major developments since Ratcliffe revealed his grand plan for the future of Manchester United. Now, the project is clearly moving forward and closer to becoming a reality for thousands of supporters.

In addition, United also announced that they will not participate in the EFL Trophy or National League Cup for the 2026-27 season. According to club insiders, this decision was made as United will make a transition to the UEFA Youth League, following the qualification of their senior team for the Champions League. The pool of their professional development phase players who are moving from U-18 to U-21 squads is also smaller now, so they chose to focus on youth development and international competitions.

Stay tuned for more news about Manchester United's new stadium and plans for their fans in and outside of England.
