Talk of the full-back transfer market will remain hot after reports emerged that Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas is on Manchester United's radar as an alternative to the imminent signing of Newcastle's Lewis Hall. According to TEAMtalk, United scouts are studying the possibility of buying the 19-year-old defender from the Spanish second division who recently contributed to Racing's promotion back to La Liga. Manchester United are not the only ones showing interest. The same report also mentions that Barcelona are also following Salinas' situation. However, negotiations between Racing and interested clubs are currently stalled due to the price gap: Racing are asking around €16 million for the 19-year-old's services, while Barcelona are reportedly willing to offer just €8 million. Manchester United scouts also stress that they see Salinas as able to impose himself on United's first team immediately if brought into their system. Last season, Salinas made 34 appearances in all competitions for Racing and recorded seven assists — a record that proved his contribution to the attack from a defensive position. According to transfer portal Transfermarkt, the player's current market value is estimated at €8 million.

For Racing Santander, the request for €16 million shows the club's desire to protect their asset, especially after they achieved promotion back to La Liga. As for Barcelona, the lower offer could be a result of budget constraints or tactical calculations, while Manchester United are considering a more aggressive directive if they fail to land Lewis Hall from Newcastle. It's important to note that this news revolves around media reports and internal scout assessments; there has been no official confirmation from either club regarding any formal offer or agreed transfer. If the interest continues and the price is matched, it is expected that there will be more concrete talks between Racing and interested parties, including Manchester United and Barcelona. We will continue to monitor the development of this story and will report as soon as there is an official announcement or confirmed move from clubs and agents.

What's next

Negotiations between Racing Santander and interested clubs are expected to continue, but the huge price gap could be a stumbling block. If Manchester United can't land Lewis Hall, they could go ahead with their plan to sign Salinas, who could make an immediate impact on their first team. The summer transfer window will be crucial for both Manchester United and Barcelona as they continue to look for their midfield signing and defense targets.
