Mareggini: "If Fiorentina is ambitious, De Gea cannot be let go"
Former goalkeeper Gianmatteo Mareggini has given a sharp insight into Fiorentina's direction: praise for Paratici and new coach Fabio Grosso, and a call to keep David de Gea amid alleged interest from Juventus.
Gianmatteo Mareggini clarified the current trend and future of Fiorentina, in his interview with Radio FirenzeViola. According to the former doorman, he has seen an upswing since the arrival of Fabio Paratici and things are running better inside the club.
"I have hope. Not everything should be thrown away and since the arrival of Paratici, things have improved. I'm sure there will be some structural adjustments, but I liked the President's message and guaranteed the Director of Sports. Now, work is needed. There are players to keep; we can't start from zero because it will eat up a very long time," said Mareggini.
He is also confident that the new coach is a good fit: "Fabio Grosso is the right man. He is a World Champion and can last in Firenze for many years. As a coach, he has done a good job. At Sassuolo, he has achieved the targets in results and in the game. I have followed him and he seems to be balanced as a person."

"If he leaves, it's fair to open up the space for Martinelli who showed very well at Sampdoria. But if this is the program, everyone should know that the level of expectation will be different. If the club wants to be ambitious, it cannot let go of De Gea. He deserves what he earns for this type of goalkeeper, and Juventus still have an interest in him," he said.
Mareggini also looked back on the veteran goalkeeper's key moments. "At a time when the whole team was not well, against Lazio and Verona, he delivered two huge matches that were the key to survival. That's the champion — at the most important moment, as the captain, brings out the most important performances."
As for the attack, his judgment on Moise Kean was careful. "I know him well. Last year, he surprised me in a positive way, but I still can't tell which is the real Kean — 'last year or this edition. A strong striker is visible when things are not going well; this year, he was disappointing, made mistakes, and was too hot-tempered," Mareggini concluded.
