Miroslav Koubek, Resigns As Head Coach Of Czechia After Early Exit From World Cup
Miroslav Koubek has resigned as Czechia's head coach following their defeat in all Group A matches of the 2026 World Cup.
Miroslav Koubek has officially stepped down as Czechia's head coach following the team's early exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Czechia did not manage a single win in their three matches in Group A, and they finished in last place with just one point (W0 D1 L2). This is the second time that Czechia has not recorded more than two points in the World Cup group stage.

His decision to use a defensive tactic in the match also drew criticism and started with striker Patrik Schick just sitting on the bench. In his statement, Koubek added that "a media campaign full of half-truths and inventions contributed to my decision. In this climate, it no longer makes sense for me to stay for the national team." The resignation came as a result of his agreement with the leadership of the Czech Football Association. Koubek is still praised for bringing Czechia back to the World Cup after 20 years.
Koubek first replaced Ivan Hasek this December following their shock loss against the Faroe Islands in the World Cup qualifiers. Under Koubek, the Czechia finished second in Group L, then made it through to the play-offs after defeating the Republic of Ireland and Denmark to qualify for the World Cup. In seven games as a coach, he won only two (D3 L2), with a win percentage of 28.6%.
