Napoli are set to table a new contract for Scott McTominay, reports Football Italia. The publication revealed that club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Giovanni Manna will meet with the veteran Scotland midfielder in the coming weeks to discuss the details of a new deal. Although McTominay's current contract runs until 2028, Napoli clearly want to ensure the stability of their midfield in the coming years. Typical of such moves is a review of terms in recognition of the player's contribution, while the club also secures its future amid ongoing competition in Serie A and on the continental stage. The specific details of the talks have not yet been revealed, but the target is to align conditions that are mutually acceptable to the player and Napoli management. McTominay arrived at Napoli from Manchester United in the summer of 2024 and immediately made his mark on the team's campaign. In the 2025/26 season, he recorded 44 games in all competitions, with 14 goals and 4 assists—numbers that cemented his reputation as a box‑to‑box midfield with coverage in defense and attack. According to Transfermarkt data, his transfer value is estimated at €40 million, proof of the market's high regard for his contribution and potential.

On the international stage, McTominay was also part of Scotland's national team's World Cup 2026 campaign. However, their trip ended at the group stage after finishing third in Group C—a painful exit that highlighted the need for experience and depth in future international matches. For Napoli, the early negotiation of a new contract is a strategic move to maintain the core of the team before embarking on a new year of competition. Led by De Laurentiis and Manna, the club aims to secure key pieces in the middle to support the game in high-intensity league and continental matches. Pending formal negotiations, McTominay is clearly central to Napoli's plan—a player who has provided dynamism, presence in the box, and steady work in midfield since his arrival in Italy. Once talks close, Napoli's foundation is expected to be further strengthened amid the ever-rising level of competition in Serie A. For now, supporters are focused on how a new deal will shape McTominay's role in the club's project in the short and long term.

What's next

There is expected to be a meeting in the coming weeks between McTominay and Napoli management, where the terms of the new deal will be discussed.
