The Belgians hailed Lukaku in the 'best media meeting' of the World Cup

Belgium media were delighted with Romelu Lukaku's light and honest media conference ahead of their match against Senegal; considered by some newspapers as 'entertainment' and the best of the tournament.

Belgian newspapers were delighted on Monday with the media conference given by Romelu Lukaku ahead of their team's World Cup match against Senegal. The striker appeared to be calm and direct—and that's what got the press excited.

Het Nieuwsblad wrote in a proposed headline: "Why Lukaku gave the best media meeting of the World Cup," and described the player's gesture as 'entertainment'. The newspaper added that despite the criticism the Red Devils received in the tournament, Lukaku's exit provided some relief: "Sometimes serious, sometimes joking—when it comes to the media meeting, a player exists in a different class. He does not shy away from questions and always expresses his feelings."

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, "He let go, he provoked, he attacked with a warning. Fifty shades of Lukaku, in a meeting that only lasted about fifteen minutes." Sporza added that Lukaku remained a media magnet: if foreign journalists were lacking in Belgium's previous meetings, many flocked for his speech.

During the meeting itself, there were many occasions when Lukaku laughed but he also gave honest answers. When asked how satisfied he was with the tournament, he paused for a moment to think and answered honestly: "On a personal level, an eight (8). You have to remember where I came from. As a team, we will give ourselves a seven (7). We still need to win more. We want all the wins we can."

The 33-year-old player also pointed out that so far he is mostly on the bench for Belgium. In their game against New Zealand, he managed a goal and an assist in five minutes of play. Asked if he expected his role to change in the tournament, he said: "Time will tell. From early May, I've known my role in this World Cup. I try to make an impact when needed. There's no stress—I just go with the flow. When I'm on the bench, I have time to study the opponent, see where the spaces are, and try to make a lot of hits when I come in."

It was Lukaku's easy-going but straightforward demeanor that left a positive impression on the local media—a moment that showed the man behind the numbers as Belgium prepared for crucial Mundial matches.
