Pochettino: "Feels good" after leaving Pulisic out for United States v Australia match
Mauricio Pochettino urged calm after Christian Pulisic was left out of the United States squad for their Group stage match against Australia at the FIFA World Cup 2026; said he trained in the morning and 'feels good'.
Mauricio Pochettino has called for calm following the news that Christian Pulisic will miss the United States' next match against Australia in the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The coach has left the Milan player out of the matchday squad for their second leg which kicks off at 20:00 BST.
Pulisic was withdrawn at halftime of the United States' opening game at the Mundial — a 4-1 win over Paraguay. Both the player and the coaching staff insisted it was done as a precaution after an injury in training, but the issue was serious enough to keep Pulisic out of the lineup for Friday night.
Before kick-off, Pochettino gave Fox Sports a brief update on the former Milan attacker's condition: "Today he trained in the morning and feels good," he said. "We hope that he will be ready as soon as possible to be selected again and be part of the team."
There is still a Serie A representative in the United States squad for the night: Juventus' Weston McKennie remains in the starting XI. Former Milan right-back Sergino Dest is also in the starting ten, while former Juventus forward Timothy Weah is on the bench.
For Australia, Alessandro Circati of Parma started in the starting lineup, while former Italy youth international Cristian Volpato of Sassuolo sat on the bench.
