Zico Buurmeester has left AZ after a thirteen-year journey with the club, according to an announcement by the Alkmaar side. A potential new start awaits the 24-year-old midfielders as he has officially transferred to Spanish club CD Leganés. Buurmeester grew and developed in the AZ system, but in previous seasons he was loaned out twice to PEC Zwolle. At PEC Zwolle — also known as "De Blauwvingers" — he made 41 appearances for the first team. In AZ's own first team, his tally reached 57 duels, according to the club's report. Buurmeester returned to Alkmaar this summer but was informed that he was not part of the first team plan, so he looked for an alternative path to continue his career. His solution was to move to Spain, where Leganés is active in the country's second level of football — the Segunda División.
