The Netherlands' two heavyweights—PSV and AZ—will hone their skills in a series of preseason matches a week before the Johan Cruijff Schaal, signaling that the Eredivisie teams' preparations are picking up speed. Amidst their training and system adjustments, the two clubs are clearly aiming to enter the season with sharp form and a clear identity on the field. The center of attention is the Johan Cruijff Schaal, the traditional opener of Dutch football where the league champion meets the cup champion. It usually becomes a measure of the preparedness of the top teams, and the choice of PSV and AZ to play intense rehearsals a week before such a title shows the emphasis on the rhythm, condition and formation of the first XI before entering the competition. While the two contenders are busy, the bigger picture remains: all clubs in the Eredivisie have their own pre-season schedule to tighten fitness, fine-tune tactics, and integrate new faces from the academy or the coach's tactical changes. During this time the chemistry is honed, the press and defense are adjusted, and the transition is worked on—details that are critical in a league known for speed, open attacks, and the development of young talent.

The new Eredivisie season will officially begin on August 7, featuring the opening match between SC Cambuur and Excelsior. This early kick-off will be the first barometer of the level of competition this year: how will a team coming off a heavy pre-season workload respond? Can each side handle the intensity of the game at the first whistle? For followers in the Philippines, expect late-night viewing, but instead fresh action from a league that always brings drama and breakout stars. For PSV and AZ, the last days of the pre-season before the Johan Cruijff Schaal are not only about the result of the rehearsal, but the quality of the minutes for the core of the team. They are expected to match the intensity of a competitive match to test their build-up play, speed in transition, and compactness at the back—elements that often dictate who takes the lead in the first month of the league. All in all, the picture of the pre-season in the Netherlands is clear: dates are planned, preparations are in line with the biggest occasions—and the first test is just around the corner. From Johan Cruijff Schaal to the opening night of the Eredivisie in Cambuur against Excelsior, the stage is set for another season of fast-paced and testing football in the Netherlands. For fans, now is a good time to take a look at each club's schedule and keep an eye on which system and form will be the loudest when the official kick-off comes on August 7.
