Rangers have reached an agreement to sign Couhaib Driouech from PSV Eindhoven for £6.5 million, according to reports. The 24-year-old winger is expected to be part of the team's plan to strengthen their defense and attack in the upcoming Scottish Premiership matches and European campaigns. Apart from Driouech, Rangers are also active in the market for James Penrice, 27, who previously played for Hearts. Rangers have tabled a loan offer with an option to buy, but it is emerging that AEK Athens are demanding a permanent transfer for the full-back. Rangers are clearly trying to add depth to their squad as they prepare for a series of tough matches this season. Meanwhile, city rivals Celtic are still positive about the possibility of signing Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan, 24, from Real Oviedo this week. However, their interest in Fares Ghedjemis, 23, of Frosinone stalled after reaching a price they could no longer afford, so a potential deal did not follow through.

In other notable moves, English League One newcomers Bromley rejected Dundee's offer of around £100,000 for central defender Omar Sowunmi, 30. It shows that there is competition to strengthen the defense with some teams in England's lower leagues. Bundesliga 2 side St Pauli are also interested in Dimitar Mitov, the Aberdeen goalkeeper, and have tabled an offer that includes a six-figure fee plus add-ons for the 29-year-old Bulgarian. This will give Mitov a chance to try out German football if the deal goes through. On the other hand, 20-year-old defender Ethan Sutherland has opted to join Exeter City on a loan from Wolves, despite interest from the Scottish Premiership. This move is an indication that the young player values the opportunity in the regular game to develop his career. These moves are part of a larger transfer window scenario where teams are scrambling to fill their weaknesses before the start of a series of important matches and competitions. Developments in these matters will continue to be monitored as negotiations and official announcements from the clubs continue.

What's next

Rangers are expected to be active in the summer transfer window as they continue to look for possible midfield signings and other positions to deepen their squad. Their interest in James Penrice shows their need in defence, while moves by their rivals such as Celtic bring further pressure on them. The next few weeks will be critical for the Rangers in building a competitive team.
