Context

Davide Frattesi is a promising midfielder who came through Roma's youth academy and had a stint at Sassuolo before moving to Inter. During his time at Inter, he struggled to get regular playing time, which led to speculation about his future in the transfer market. His return to Lazio could be an important part of his player development and an opportunity for him to once again show his ability in Serie A football.

Why it matters

Davide Frattesi's move to Lazio is an important step in his career, especially as he looks for more playing time in Serie A. His ability as a midfield signing could change the dynamics of the Lazio team, who are currently looking for new talents to bolster their lineup. With his previous experience in Roma's youth setup, the return to this capital brings expectations for his development as a player.

Key Points

• Rome always part of Frattesi's destiny: January interest,.
• Davide Frattesi, who is considered too much of the Inter squad, will soon move to Lazio.
• La Capitale nel destino di Frattesi: a gennaio l'interesse della Roma, ora il passaggio alla Lazio.

Davide Frattesi, the player who has been so much in Inter's ranks in recent transfer sessions, seems to be eyeing the Roman capital again as his next destination — but not to the colors of Roma who were interested in January, but to Lazio, the club where he spent his early years as a youth. According to the report, the midfielder who previously played for Sassuolo has long been suspected of being released from Inter as he looks for regular playing time. Even when coach Chivu arrived last summer, Frattesi was not regularly used in the first team. In Serie A this season he has logged 552 minutes of play in 22 appearances — an average of around 25 minutes per game. Additionally, he made three appearances in the Coppa Italia, seven in the Champions League where he averaged 42 minutes of game time, and he had 19 minutes in the Supercoppa Italiana. The situation at Inter prompted the possibility of a transfer; six months ago Roma had an active interest in signing him, trying to bring back the player who had a three-year stint in their youth setup from 2014 to 2017. But the operation did not go through as Inter did not want to give Frattesi up then.

Now, Frattesi's destiny returns to the city of Rome, but in this case to the capital's other big club: Lazio. It was here that he took his first steps as a youth from 2006 to 2014 before moving to Rome—a unique twist in his career that would return him to the city where his rise began. At Lazio, coach Gattuso's leadership is expected to be underwhelming, and Frattesi hopes to regain the minutes he lost at Inter. It is not yet clear whether any agreement is final or formal; the report says he is "si appresta a cambiare casacca" this mercato session, meaning he is ready to change clubs but there is no official confirmation from the parties. The possibility of a transfer has great value for both the player and Lazio: for Frattesi, it is a chance to prove himself again and get a regular game; for Lazio, an option to add dynamism to the midfield from a player already experienced in Serie A and in Europe. A formal announcement from Inter and Lazio remains to be seen before any deal is considered confirmed.

What's next

Fratesi is expected to be active in the summer transfer window as he moves from Inter to Lazio. His move could allow him to get a bigger role in the midfield, which will be important for his development and Lazio's ambition in Serie A. Fans and experts are watching how he will fit into the team's current strategy and what his experience can bring to their matches.
