Sergio Aguero, in favor of Man City's pursuit of Elliot Anderson: 'Complete midfielder who can run up and down'

Sergio Aguero has endorsed Manchester City's targeting of Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, amid protracted negotiations, a record fee and a medical plan as the FIFA World Cup takes place in North America.

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has endorsed his former team's pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer transfer window.

According to the report, City and Forest have been in talks for some time and Manchester City are preparing a third formal offer. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is expecting a package of around £130 million, including around £110 million in upfront fees. The player's personal terms have also reportedly been agreed, with England manager Thomas Tuchel even reportedly allowing Anderson to undergo a medical during the FIFA World Cup in North America—proof of how far the talks have come.

This target became more important after the departure of Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid. City are looking to add fresh energy and strength to the middle as new coach Enzo Maresca prepares for his first season at the Etihad.

In an interview with Stake, Aguero said: "As far as I can see, City are now leading the way in chasing Anderson. He is a complete midfielder who can run up and down, recover the ball and help build the offense. He covers a lot of space in the match."

He added regarding Anderson's possible role following Bernardo's departure: "Even though they have different styles, he can play a very important role in the team if the transfer goes through."

If closed, it is expected to be a record fee for Manchester City—proof of how highly the club thinks of the profile Aguero has described. In addition to this, City is also said to be looking at the possibility of a double acquisition that would bring Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, who was also Anderson's teammate at St. James' Park.

However, Aguero also reminded that it remains "if the transfer can be completed," because the gap in the financial talks between City and Forest that has been pending for several weeks is still not completely closed.
