Context

Cody Gakpo, who currently plays for Liverpool and is part of the Netherlands national team, has a contract until 2030. His experience at PSV and his ability to develop as a player give him a high value in the transfer market, making him a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Why it matters

Tottenham's interest in Cody Gakpo shows their ambition to improve their squad for the coming season. As a winger who has the potential to be the 'missing link' in their attack, he could provide much needed strength in their midfield. His move could open a new chapter in his career, especially at a Premier League club with high expectations.

  • Tottenham have strong interest in Liverpool's Cody Gakpo; Spurs are willing to spend if the player agrees to move.
  • Spurs show serious interest in Gakpo.
Tottenham Hotspur are showing serious interest in Cody Gakpo, according to the report — and the London outfit have a hefty budget set aside to try and land the Liverpool winger. It appears that news of this possibility has been circulating for some time, and now Spurs are clearly ready to make a move if Gakpo is also ready to leave Anfield. According to the report, Tottenham consider Gakpo to be the "missing link" in their first-line, which is why they have expressed their intention to sign him. The 27-year-old player, who previously played for PSV and is currently part of the Dutch national team (Oranje), has a contract with Liverpool until mid-2030 — a detail that gives the Merseyside side leverage in transfer matters. Liverpool are believed to be open to negotiations but are also looking to keep Gakpo if the asking price is not met. Reports claim that the Reds could consider paying upwards of €70 million for the winger, but this does not mean that they are actually obliged to sell. In other words, the next step is still in the hands of the player and Liverpool.

Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi also played a big role in Spurs' interest. The coaching staff see in the former PSV winger a player with a high level and the ability to adapt to Tottenham's way of playing. Because of this, the Spurs are not in a hurry — they are patient with the process and are also willing to wait for Gakpo's right decision. The potential move would have implications for both teams. For Tottenham, the addition of a strong attacker with top-level football experience and international exposure could provide additional depth and alternatives to their attack. For Liverpool, the arrival of a large offer could be an opportunity to realign their record and funds in the market. For now, two conditions are clear: Spurs have interest and funds; Liverpool are willing to negotiate with the right offer; and the decision is in the hands of Cody Gakpo. Premier League fans and teams will be watching the next chapter in this matter as the transfer market continues.

What's next

Currently, the next step depends on Gakpo and Liverpool. If he decides to move, Tottenham could start negotiations on Merseyside, but if not, he could stay at Anfield. The summer transfer window will be critical for Premier League teams, and Gakpo's situation is one of the main stories to watch.
