• Marca reports that Real Madrid have made the signing of Rodri from Manchester City a priority as part of their midfield overhaul plan after the trophyless 2025/26 season.
• Transfer Rodri is one of the priorities of «Reala» — Marca.

According to Marca's report, Real Madrid consider the signing of Rodri from Manchester City to be one of their top priorities. The club intends to actively negotiate for the transfer of the Spain international who is considered an important addition for the center of the pitch. In the 2025/26 campaign, Rodri made 33 appearances for Manchester City and scored two goals — a statistic cited by the report as part of the context of his contribution to the club. Moreover, Rodri was among the Spain national team that won the FIFA World Cup 2026, and according to the report he was also recognized as the best player of the tournament, an honor that further strengthens his international reputation. The report clarified that there were earlier reports that Rodri was believed to have settled contract terms with 'los blancos', but there has been no formal confirmation from either party. As negotiations continue, Real consider the operation one of 'high level of importance' for their team structure.

It is important to note the context of Real Madrid's need: last season the club did not record any trophies. Real is in second place in La Liga, they reached the 1/8 finals of the Copa del Rey and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, while winning silver in the Spanish Supercopa. The lack of concrete successes has forced the management and coaching staff to think about important additions to the squad, especially in the midfield, where the balance between defensive protection and ball distribution is important. The report did not provide details about the possible fee, the structure of the contract, or the exact schedule of the transaction. The only thing clear from Marca is Real's high priority for Rodri and the active talks going on behind the scenes. Azkals Goal will monitor any official announcement from Real Madrid, Manchester City, or the player himself regarding a potential transfer. Until the clubs verify and confirm the negotiations, reports from Marca remain the only current source of news.

What's next

As negotiations continue, Real Madrid are expected to be active in the summer transfer window to complete the move for Rodri. Their priority to secure this midfield signing could open up other opportunities in the transfer market, especially if they succeed in negotiating a contract. The next few weeks will be critical for Real Madrid as they try to rebuild a team that can deliver future successes.
