Tyrique George, Formally Moves to Everton from Chelsea; Merlin

Everton have completed Tyrique George's permanent move from Chelsea to further bolster their squad heading into the new Premier League season. After a successful loan spell for the 20-year-old forward, he has officially signed a four-year contract with the Toffees. During the last season, George played 11 times under the leadership of coach David Moyes, although he started only once in the first eleven. Former Chelsea Academy graduate George has also spent 12 years at the club and has now expressed his determination to succeed at Everton. In an interview, George said, "I still have a lot to say and I know I'm in the right place, with the manager, the coaching staff, and my teammates." He also made it clear that he is ready to start the pre-season immediately to prove his worth for the new team.

The deal, which is reported to be worth up to £24 million including add-ons, is part of coach Moyes' plan to add youth and strength to the squad. Along with George's arrival, Everton also officially welcomed Merlin Rohl from Freiburg after a successful season-long loan. Rohl made 17 appearances and one goal in the Premier League, showing versatility as a midfielder. Another new face is Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough who also joins the Toffees to strengthen the midfield options. According to David Moyes, Tyrique George was a big help in the system because he was able to adjust quickly and showed the right attitude when he was still on loan. "Tyrique has shown a lot in his loan spell, and he is still young, so we believe he has a lot of potential to draw from. The coaching staff is excited to see him evolve here at Everton," added Moyes. After losing out in the chase for a European spot last season, the pressure is high on Everton to perform in the 2026-27 Premier League. Their campaign will begin against Crystal Palace at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on August 22.
