Aston Villa have held talks over a possible transfer for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to a report by The Athletic which has circulated via the New York Times feed. The same report also mentions West Ham as part of the talks, although no formal statement has yet been released from the parties involved and no details about the fee or length of the contract. This news is proof that the market for lateral defenders in the Premier League is still hot as the final part of the transfer window approaches. Wan-Bissaka is known as a solid right-back, particularly for his timing in tackles and 1v1 defending. In recent years, this type of full-back has become important for teams in England—not only in defense but also in transition play and building attack from the back. So it's no wonder why Aston Villa, who continue to deepen their roster to maintain a competitive level in the Premier League and European matches, are interested, should a tight schedule loom. On the other hand, the mention of West Ham in the report is an indication that the negotiations may have additional dynamics—it could refer to interest, talks, or other market factors affecting the next step. However, it is not yet clear exactly what role West Ham will play in the current phase of the talks. Until there is official confirmation, these scenarios remain only possibilities. What could this move mean for Aston Villa? First, a deeper right-back option that can adapt to different systems—from a back four to a more flexible set-up where the full-backs are expected to be more aggressive in the final third. Second, a higher level of positional competition, which generally drives up individual form and overall defensive quality. For Wan-Bissaka, a possible move could provide a fresh challenge and a new role in an environment that craves continuous development. In the current Premier League trend, being homegrown and experience in the league are also important—qualities that make any potential recruit valuable within England. So far, there is no signature, no medical, and no transfer fee number released. Until the clubs or the player's camp make an official announcement, the talks remain at an early stage. Stay tuned to Azkals Goal for further updates on whether it reaches a concrete agreement or remains just an interest in the market.
