By Sports.

Context

Milutin Osmajic, a Montenegro international, has made a significant impact in the Championship since his move to Preston North End. With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, his move to Genoa could be an important step in his career, especially as he seeks exposure at the higher levels of Serie A football.

Why it matters

Milutin Osmajic's move to Genoa is important for both the player and the club. With his past successes in Championship football, notably his eight goals in 28 games, he is expected to provide much-needed impetus to the Grifone attack, which is currently short of centre-backs. This move could open up more opportunities for Osmajic in Serie A.

Key Points

According to reports from Italian outlets, Genoa are close to completing the signing of Milutin Osmajic from Preston North End for €3.5 million with add-ons. Grifone is reportedly in advanced negotiations for the centre-forward as the team looks for an extra option up front following recent roster changes. It's no secret that Genoa were short on centre-backs in pre-season, especially after they sold Jeff Ekhator to Juventus in a surprise move. As part of the search for a replacement, the club examined other names — including Mehdi Taremi and Evan Ferguson — before giving way to Osmajic, according to the report. Milutin Osmajic, who recently celebrated his 27th birthday, is a Montenegro international with nine goals in 36 senior caps for his country. He moved from Spanish side Cádiz to Preston in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of €2.5 million. Since then, his market value has increased and according to the latest report Genoa are ready to pay €3.5 million plus bonuses to acquire the centre.

At club level, Osmajic still has a contract at Preston until the end of the current campaign, so it is important for Genoa to speed up talks to secure a move this window. Last season in the Championship, he scored eight goals in 28 league games — a figure that showed his ability to contribute to a team's scoring load in a tight competition. For Genoa, bringing in a center with regular English Championship experience and international exposure could provide more attacking options as the team prepares for a series of matches in domestic competition. The transfer has yet to be officially confirmed, so expect a possible formal announcement or more details from both clubs in the coming days. The transaction, if completed, would also represent a successful move for Genoa to reinforce their frontline without spending a huge fee, while giving Osmajic the chance to show up in Serie A with a copy of the new club. What's next

If the transfer goes through, Osmajic is expected to be part of Genoa's lineup in their next matches in Serie A. His arrival could bring about a change in the team's tactics, especially in their attack. Reactions from Preston North End, who may be looking for a replacement for their missing player, should also be watched.
