Key Points

• Report: Manchester United and Roma start talks for €60m.
• L'Equipe: Manchester United and Roma open formal negotiations for €60m-rated Manu Koné; Arsenal are said to be leading the race for the France international midfielder.
• Kone talks begin between Manchester United and Roma over €60m star.

L'Equipe has released a report that formal talks have begun between Manchester United and Roma for the possible transfer of France international Manu Koné, who is believed to have an asking price of around €60 million. Despite the Red Devils' move, Arsenal are said to still be leading the race for the midfielder. The full details of the negotiations, including the fee structure and other add-ons, are not yet clear, but the €60 million price tag is an indication of high confidence in Koné's quality. The French midfielder is known for his energy in the middle, ability to break up play, and carry the ball from defense to attack—traits that Europe's big teams have long prioritized to bolster their midfield. For Manchester United, this approach shows the intention to increase the forces in the central part of the pitch in the current transfer window. The need to add dynamism and a ball-winning presence in midfield has long been talked about at Old Trafford, and with Koné's profile, it matches the modern style of play in the Premier League. However, as no formal agreement has yet been announced, the possibility remains open that the direction of the talks will change depending on the progress of negotiations and competition from other clubs.

Meanwhile, Arsenal—who are said to be leading the race—continue to pursue added quality and depth in the middle to support their ambitions at the top of the Premier League and Europe. If the Gunners' interest continues, talks over the value and length of the contract, as well as the role to be drawn for Koné in the game's coveted system, are likely to drag on. The report also mentions Roma's participation in formal talks, although it is not entirely clear what the Italian club's exact role in the negotiations will be based on current information. In this situation, the parties involved are expected to further review the possible structure and timing of any agreement before moving on to more concrete stages such as approval of personal terms and medical examinations. While there is no confirmation from the club's official spokesmen, this talk remains speculative. We will provide further updates should there be a formal announcement from either party involved.

What's next

As negotiations between Manchester United and Roma continue, Arsenal appear to be leading the battle for Koné. The details of the agreement, including the fee structure and other add-ons, are not yet clear, leaving room for changes in the direction of the talks. The next few weeks will be critical in the development of the clubs' decisions on their plans in the transfer market.
