Key Points

• Valencia have made contact with FC Volendam for Kayne van Oevelen; there is also interest from the Premier League (Leeds United, Ipswich Town).
• Valencia meldt zich bij FC Volendam voor Van Oevelen.

Valencia have made a concrete move after contacting FC Volendam for a possible transfer of 22-year-old goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen. According to information gathered from the Netherlands, Van Oevelen has also spoken to the La Liga club's camp, an indication that the people of Mestalla take the young Dutch shot-stopper seriously. Although there has been a lot of interest from outside the country, Van Oevelen is currently at Volendam—the team that won the Keuken Kampioen Divisie in 2024/25 and moved up to the Eredivisie. However, the so-called “Heen en Weer” lasted only one year at the highest level in the Netherlands before falling back to the division they came from. During that time, Van Oevelen became the main goalkeeper and earned plaudits for his strong blocking, even though he missed the last two matches of the campaign through injury. Despite the collapse at Volendam, Van Oevelen could be instantly back in the top-flight—not just in the Netherlands but in Spain as well—once his potential move to Valencia goes through. The club also has a history of signing Dutch goalkeepers, such as Jasper Cillessen who once wore their colours.

Valencia is not the only one in the picture. Within the Netherlands, FC Twente are also said to have looked at him but their attention has shifted after their personal agreement with Jeffrey de Lange progressed. The market for the 22-year-old is even wider as scouts from the Premier League include Leeds United and Ipswich Town. For Volendam, this could be the next big sale if the negotiations end up being signed. The club are targeting a multi-million fee for their main goalkeeper—although not expected to reach the record previously set by the departure of Micky van de Ven, which remains the biggest outgoing transfer in the Vissersdorp side's history. In Valencia's view, the signing of Van Oevelen could add competition and depth to the goalkeeper position while shaping the team's longer-term foundations in La Liga. For Van Oevelen, the prospect of competing in Spain is a step up in his career—from cementing his name in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and a year in the Eredivisie, to a bigger stage. At the moment, the situation remains open: Valencia have contacted Volendam and there are talks on the player's side, while there is also interest from England. No official fee or signing time has yet been released, but it's clear the market will heat up for the young Dutch keeper this summer in the European transfer window.

What's next

Negotiations between Valencia and FC Volendam are expected to continue as the summer transfer window approaches. Details of a possible transfer could emerge in the coming weeks, especially with other interest from the Premier League. If the move goes through, Van Oevelen could join a La Liga club with a history of signing Dutch players, which could help his player development.
