A new video has quickly gone viral on social media after Scott McTominay was captured performing another impressive spin kick while training with Napoli. The clip emerged from the club's open pre-season training session where David Neres crossed from the right flank and the 29-year-old responded with an acrobatic finish that put the ball into the net. Napoli showed footage of the special finish—an event that was immediately criticized and praised by spectators for the skill and timing of the kick. It was the latest example of McTominay's ability to produce creative, high-level drop balls, following on from earlier big moments in his career. There's no denying the early comparisons brought home the iconic curling kick he scored for Scotland against Denmark in a FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier on November 18, 2025. The strike was momentous for Scotland and left a cultural mark—it was published on Scottish bank notes and even painted on a mural in Glasgow. In this context, it is strange to recognize him: a player who had the same image in Glasgow and now in Napoli.

Even before this viral training goal, McTominay had shown the ability to contribute acrobatic goals at key moments. In the last game of the 2024–25 Serie A season, he also managed to show great determination with an acrobatic finish that brought Napoli closer to the title chase against Inter. From his time as a Manchester United player to his current spell at Napoli, McTominay has continued to display a combination of physicality and technical prowess. This new viral clip reminds fans why he's being watched—not just as a box-to-box midfielder but as a player capable of delivering surprising and fiery moments. Although the video was from a training session and not an official match, it had a huge impact on the conversation between the fans and the foundation of the club. The reaction on social media will continue to be monitored and how Napoli and McTominay will use this momentum before the series of official matches resumes. Photos and video of the scene were shared by the club, and the moment—a brief but powerful demonstration of skill—reinstated McTominay's reputation as a player unafraid to show risk-reward attempts inside the box.

What's next

McTominay is expected to be a big part of Napoli's lineup this coming season in Serie A. His ability to score acrobatic goals, such as his iconic kick for Scotland, will certainly be an asset to his new team as Napoli aim to achieve league success.
