A few weeks after helping Cape Verde reach the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, Vozinha has a new home. Chile's Colo-Colo announced that they have signed the 40-year-old goalkeeper—also known as Josimar Dias—on an estimated 18-month contract as a free agent. "Welcome. We're waiting for you," the club's message on their social media, confirming the arrival of one of the hottest names from the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tradition that Vozinha will enter is not something to be taken lightly. Founded in 1925, Colo-Colo is the most successful team in Chile: 34 times league champion, 14 times reigning Copa Chile, and once crowned Copa Libertadores. The club has also been in solid form this season, holding a 13-point advantage at the top of the table against Club Deportivo Universidad Católica—proof that the ambition for another Primera División de Chile title is serious. Vozinha rose to fame quickly in Cape Verde's first appearance at the World Cup. In their opening match against eventual champions Spain, he recorded seven saves and became the oldest goalkeeper to register a clean sheet on tournament debut. From there, he continued to solidify the debutant nation's defense: he recorded two clean sheets, including three saves against Saudi Arabia to complete a third straight draw in the group stage and seal the ticket to the knockout round.

In the Round of 32, they meet Lionel Messi and defending champions Argentina in one of the most dynamic matches of the tournament. Although Cape Verde lost, 3-2, Vozinha still stood as a wall—he stopped eight shots, including four from Messi. As a result of his impressive campaign, he was included in FIFA's Best XI for the World Cup. Along with on-field heroics, his popularity on social media also exploded. From around 50,000, his Instagram followers climbed to nearly 14 million at the height of the tournament; and by Saturday morning, it was at 29.5 million—a measure of the extent of the influence his escapades carried. Before moving to South America, Vozinha spent the last three seasons at G.D. Chaves in Portugal's second division. At Colo-Colo, he is expected to bring experience, leadership, and World Cup-shaped confidence—traits that will be vital to the club's title push and campaigns on the Copa Chile and continental stage. As Colo-Colo aim to continue their dominance, the arrival of a World Cup standout like Vozinha is a clear statement of intent for the rest of the season.

What's next

Vozinha is expected to be a big part of Colo-Colo's ambition to win another Primera División title. With his experience and unique ability, he could be key to the team's progress as they prepare for the challenges of the Copa Chile and Copa Libertadores. His move can also inspire young people in Cape Verde and other countries who aim to develop in the field of football.
