Key Points

• Women's Super League: Crystal Palace sign Molly.
• Molly Bartrip, 30, has moved from Tottenham to Crystal Palace on a three-year contract.
• Women's Super League: Palace sign Spurs defender Molly Bartrip - BBC Sport.

Crystal Palace have officially signed defender Molly Bartrip from Tottenham in a transfer for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year contract. The 30-year-old centre-back will be a key piece in Palace's return to the Women's Super League (WSL) and will be reunited with former Spurs captain Bethany England, who was also one of the Eagles' first additions this summer. Bartrip has had a solid career at Tottenham over the past five years, where she made more than 100 appearances and was appointed vice-captain in 2023. She made Spurs Women's history when they reached their first Women's FA Cup final in 2024. According to the club record, she also played in every match of the 2024–25 campaign and signed a three-year extension after that before moving now to Palace's Selhurst Park setup. For Crystal Palace, it was a strong statement of intent. Coming from second place in the second division last season, the Eagles have once again earned a ticket back to the WSL and the goal is clear: stay up and keep pace. Bartrip's experience at the highest level of women's football in England will help solidify the defence, and her leadership as a former vice-captain at Spurs is an added quality on and off the pitch.

Bartrip isn't just the Palace's newest weapon. Bethany England — a renowned finisher and former Spurs captain — and last season's second division top scorer Lexi Lloyd-Smith arrived first. With this combination, Palace bolsters the balance of experience and firepower that will be needed for the WSL's long calendar. For Tottenham, Bartrip's departure means the loss of a veteran defender who has contributed greatly to their previous campaigns, including a historic run to the FA Cup final. However, this is part of the normal movement in the market especially during times when teams are preparing for a new season and changing strategy. All in all, Molly Bartrip's move to Crystal Palace is a shrewd move for a club that is only now re-engaging in the tension of the WSL. He brings strength and depth of experience, and how that translates into results on the pitch will be what fans will be watching. As the season opener approaches, Palace's message is clear: they are not tourists at the highest level — they are ready to fight.

What's next

Bartrip is expected to be important in Crystal Palace's next matches in the Women's Super League. His skill and experience will be key in building a strong defense as the team claims a new position in the league. Palace's new signings aim to provide a higher level of competition and ensure their league survival in the coming season.
